Description

PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

CA Atra 10mg Capsule, commonly known as All-Trans Retinoic Acid (ATRA), is a medication primarily used in the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), a subtype of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). It belongs to the class of medications called retinoids, which are compounds derived from vitamin A. CA Atra 10mg Capsule works by inducing the differentiation of abnormal promyelocytes into mature white blood cells, thereby reducing the proliferation of cancer cells in the bone marrow.

Each CA Atra 10mg Capsule contains 10 milligrams of all-trans retinoic acid as the active ingredient. It is usually prescribed as part of a combination therapy regimen, often in conjunction with chemotherapy drugs like anthracyclines or cytarabine, to achieve optimal treatment outcomes in APL patients.

USES OF CA Atra 10mg Capsule

Treatment of Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL): The primary use of CA Atra 10mg Capsule is in the management of APL, a rare and aggressive form of leukemia characterized by the abnormal accumulation of immature promyelocytes in the bone marrow. APL is distinguished by a specific chromosomal translocation involving the retinoic acid receptor-alpha (RAR-α) gene, which results in impaired cellular differentiation and unchecked cell proliferation. CA Atra 10mg Capsule targets this underlying mechanism by promoting the maturation of leukemic cells, leading to their eventual elimination from the body.

BENEFITS OF CA Atra 10mg Capsule

  1. Induction of Remission: CA Atra 10mg Capsule, when used in combination with other chemotherapy agents, has demonstrated high efficacy in inducing complete remission in patients with APL. By promoting the differentiation of leukemic cells, it helps restore the normal balance of blood cell production in the bone marrow, leading to a reduction in disease burden.
  2. Improved Survival Rates: Clinical studies have shown that the incorporation of CA Atra 10mg Capsule into treatment protocols for APL significantly improves long-term survival rates among affected individuals. When administered promptly and in conjunction with chemotherapy, it can substantially enhance the chances of disease-free survival and overall survival.
  3. Reduced Risk of Relapse: Maintenance therapy with CA Atra 10mg Capsule following induction and consolidation chemotherapy has been associated with a decreased risk of disease recurrence or relapse in APL patients. By targeting residual leukemic cells and preventing their proliferation, it helps sustain remission and prolongs the duration of response to treatment.

SIDE EFFECTS OF CA Atra 10mg Capsule

While CA Atra 10mg Capsule is generally well-tolerated, it may cause certain adverse effects in some individuals. Common side effects associated with its use include:

  1. Retinoic Acid Syndrome (RAS): This is a potentially serious complication characterized by fever, respiratory distress, weight gain, and peripheral edema. RAS typically occurs during the initial weeks of treatment and requires prompt medical intervention to prevent further complications.
  2. Hypertriglyceridemia: CA Atra 10mg Capsule can elevate blood triglyceride levels, which may increase the risk of pancreatitis or cardiovascular events in susceptible individuals. Regular monitoring of lipid profiles and appropriate management strategies are essential to mitigate this risk.
  3. Dry Skin and Mucous Membrane: Retinoids such as CA Atra 10mg Capsule can cause dryness and peeling of the skin, as well as irritation of mucous membranes, leading to symptoms like dry eyes, nosebleeds, and mouth sores.
  4. Increased Intracranial Pressure: In rare cases, CA Atra 10mg Capsule may precipitate symptoms of raised intracranial pressure, including headache, visual disturbances, and papilledema. Close monitoring is warranted, especially in patients with pre-existing intracranial hypertension or conditions predisposing to fluid retention.
  5. Hepatotoxicity: Elevated liver enzymes and hepatocellular injury have been reported with the use of CA Atra 10mg Capsule, necessitating regular liver function tests to detect and manage hepatic dysfunction promptly.
  6. Teratogenicity: CA Atra 10mg Capsule is contraindicated in pregnant women due to its potential to cause fetal malformations and developmental abnormalities. Adequate contraception should be advised for women of childbearing age receiving treatment with this medication.
